This whole kitchen remodel began when I got a little too curious about what could possibly be under the vinyl floors in the kitchen. I knew there just had to be hardwood floors under there! |
| So, when I found several layers of vinyl, Juan got involved |
...and another layer... |
| My first plan was to restore the original floors. I researched how to do this on the good ol' internet, and made a try at it. Problem was, the new board were just a hair too small and wouldn't line up right without gaps. So that plan was scrapped. |

Since we now absolutely needed a new floor, naturally we just started a full remodel |
| As much as Juan hates renovation, he really does like demo |
All of the cabinets appeared to be custom built, if you can call it that. One fun thing I learned: they used floor underlayment to build them! |
| Is the room getting bigger or is it just me? |
All gone! |
| See that little half wall? We'll talk about that more later. |
Because the house is all masonry construction, when they replumbed and rewired, they couldn't really run those in the wall. So they built this little half wall, which was pretty functional. |
| However, upon tearing everything apart, we realized the construction was laughable. See how crooked those 2x4s are? |
So, out that came, too. |
| While we're at it (and Juan's already annoyed), down comes the ceiling fan. |
What became of all that wood and vinyl flooring |
| And to solve the "How will we wash dishes and fill the spaghetti pot" issue, we have this little set-up. Ain't it gorgeous? |
As a reward for finishing the demo, we bought ourselves a new toy for the rebuild! Yay for power tools! |
| Poor little helper dogs are all worn out |
Night, night! |
| Here's the real secret: The self-demoing hammer. |
